Please give us a short summary of your website?
Webmaster Key is a family-friendly forum dedicated to help people with topics related to webmastering, web design, computers, running Linux OS and other subjects interesting to our members.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I have participated in different forums and all of them were enforcing strict rules about competitors. E.g. you couldn't mention competing resource in the thread even if it was highly related for discussion.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
If I'm not wrong I've launched my first website in year 2000. I've tried to share my experience on building, promoting and maintaining website. It was on Fast2Surf service so once they go commercial I decide to register own domain and move site there, so in year 2002 I've registered WebLamp.net and moved all materials there. Later I didn't have time to maintain information on that resource so closed it and only keep webmaster forum which become independent resource.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I hardly remember how exactly got this idea... Guess I just wish to bring light to site building and help people :)
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We never tried to become biggest forum on the web but rather build community where everyone knows each other. This way people not only find necessary information but find friends.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Keep helping people.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Although site is originally based on SMF script, I'm modifying it myself, if I had a budget for development I'll probably quit job and give all my time for developing community. I would re-open main www.weblamp.net site with articles about webmastering and add sections about working with Linux and digital photography.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
It's community project so I'm sure they have a power to keep up with demand if needed.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
We have a lot of spammers attack in the past but we manage to deal with this problem by modifications to code. Now the biggest headache is lack of time and money, I guess this is familiar to every working person on planet Earth :)
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Word of mouth
