LenoxWeb Interview

By Interviewer at 10/24/07 22:49

Name of your website?

LenoxWeb

Your name?

william schaepe

Your Location (city, etc)

New York, NY

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Custom website design and development for nonprofits and small businesses.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

To help nonprofits with their mission. I worked for nonprofits in NYC for years and know their problems. I want to help them. I also worked for a number of startup companies and want to help startups grow and be successful

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

1993. It was for a nonprofit music venue that raised money for charities

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I have a home in Lenox, MA and chose that name for the business

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

My offerings are much better than any others. There is NOWHERE that a nonprofit can get a 20-page custom website for $800; and this includes many extra open-source pieces of functionality.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Keep it for income and help as many companies as I can.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Still need more business to make a living on it

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Do more marketing and employ more contractors to help do the work

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, I would use 1099's and subcontractors. I would also bring in full time staff

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

none so far

What has been your biggest challenge?

learning all the required technology from design to SEO to PHP/MySQL and Ajax

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

networking and demand from the website

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It hasn't

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Two years and I expect to keep it running for at least 10 years

What is your website address?

LenoxWeb
