Please give us a short summary of your website?
Webdistortion is a webdevelopment company, which is starting out in its infancy as a freelance business, we currently have 4 major clients, and hope to provide web design and development to many more in the future.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I always had a passion for the web when I was younger, and taught myself web technologies. This passion, proved to be a lucrative business opportunity.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Back in the day 1998, the site was terrible, as I was only honing my skills.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted the company name to encompass the change in our approach to web development, the web before the distortion at the start of the company helps with our search engine marketing.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Our friendly approach to developing, our strict adherance to design, and coding standards, and of course our customer service. The business is also an early adopter of technologies.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To grow the business sufficiently to go out on my own, and not need to rely on incomes from working. I want to be my own boss by the age of thirty.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The more you input, I guess the more you get back. Particularly in relation to writing content, the more content you provide online, the more visitors and potential clients you will get.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Encorporate much more content. Hiring content writers and outsource a few web application ideas I haven't had time to implement on my own.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely, you can always outsource development to other agencies, and pick and choose your client base.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
VAT and processing tax returns is never fun.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Growing the level of visitors, and continuing to add frequent visitor content can be difficult when trying to support an existing customer base.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Writing articles, word of mouth advertising and networking. Giving a bottle of wine to happy clients upon signover has also had a positive effect, with alcohol being a social thing, some referrals have been over a bottle of wine.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It hasn't, I am well aware of the challenges to expect, particularly in my line of work.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site has been up and running since 1998, and has proved itself already, I plan on continuing to add content, services and products to our existing ones.
