This week, we added trackback functionality to our blogs and forums. We excepted to see a lot of spam, with the likes of trackback spider and other similar programs. What we didn't except to see was lots of bogus stuff.
In the first week we are running about 1% spam submissions, ie: "legit" trackbacks that point to: 1) off topic sites, and 2) sites that don't have a link. (I should not that all of the spam submissions we've received meet BOTH of those qualifications as "spam".
However, 99% of the submissions are just complete trash. They have bogus titles, blog names, descriptions and invalid urls. ie: links to non-existent domains!
Now here is where STUPID in extra big letters comes in.!
I realize the bogus submissions are just spammer(s) attempting to figure out how to get links. However, if they are successful and full up a page's trackback log with links to all kinds of non-existent and bogus sites they will just be downgrading the neighborhood that they will be placing a trackback link in, when it comes time to do so.
Get real. Get a clue. Write a decent blog post about something and trackback it!
