Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our website is our home on the web where you can learn the basics of Search Engine Optimization, put in it's simplest terms possible. Our client testimonials include links to Google.com wherein the viewer can see the results they are getting from our for-fee-services.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Over the years I have been so busy optimizing and building client websites, yet all the while, many of my clients would still ask, what is it that you *do* to sites to make them rank higher at the search engines? On our site we attempt to explain in simple terms what SEO is, and how we achieve great results at affordable prices.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
In 1997 I build the world's largest Harley-Davidson related link page repository for a client, to help get attention to his rental service. It was the first site I built, and it had quite a following. Unfortunately, my client eventually went out of business, and the pages disappeared.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Our name is what we do. We get sites to rank at Google in the Top 10 rankings for their relevant keywords.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We use old fashioned, true and tried methods, and we charge based on a fee-for-service method. We do not make clients pay monthly bills to "keep their high rank" as others do, and we save ourselves time (and the client - money) by utilizing technologies like speech recognition and hotkeys to expediate our process of hand-done link building. We do not resort to black hat methods or linking farms or anything that may harm a clients campaign.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
An eventual book deal is in the works as we speak, actually.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I do not measure my success on a basis of income alone, by any means. It has been a pursuit for me to fully understand this niche sector, to become the best at what I do. Their is no balance in becoming the best, only dedication and trial and error. Ten years is a long investment, but if there is a payoff, it is that I don't have to do a lot of sales work. My clients do it for me - in referrals.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would make it an online university of SEO and openly offer all my knowledge.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I doubt it would as it is not that "kind" of site. I have other projects on the go, that could tho... sidelines, my own domains.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
I guess spending a lot of time trying to explain to people, what it is i do, and how I accomplish it has consumed huge amounts of time - however - it creates a "buzz" and i do regularly get calls out of the blue - because my name "gets around".
What has been your biggest challenge?
Not becoming obssesive with sitting 18 hrs a day in front of the PC.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Client referrals.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
None really.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It is a new rendition of an old site I had, so I guess 8 years. This site is, however, brand new, and will be added to, a lot, over the upcoming months.
What is the future of your industry?
A smarter Google that thinks a lot like a university grad, instead of a grade nine math student.
