Ristvin Marketing Interview

Name of your website?

Ristvin Marketing

Your name?

Jim Bruce

Your Location (city, etc)

Bellvue, Colorado 80512

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Professional Search Engine Optimization and Search Marketing Services are the core of our web business. We get websites online and high in the search engine rankings. Our specialty is getting small local businesses listed and ranking high in Google and Yahoo! Local listings. It is our business to get visitors to your website and convert them to sales and revenue for you.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

We have been online since 2001 dealing mostly with online marketing. But as the years have gone by, we have dealt more and more with search engine optimization. In 2007, we decided to focus totally on SEO and getting other's sites known by ranking high on Google, Yahoo!, and MSN(Live).

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I launched my first website in 2000, although I had been active in Bulletin Boards and Forums since the mid-1990's. My first site was a personal one. It was about my Rist Canyon Vineyards and is found at: http://www.ristcanyonvineyards.com This site deals with my grape growing research under Colorado foothills conditions.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name for Ristvin Marketing came from a shortened version of my vineyard. Originally, Ristvin Marketing was the marketing website for my grape growing books and supplies.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

Ristvin Marketing specializes in "Local Search" for those small businesses that aren't out there to compete with the vast online community. These businesses want their name and website known locally or regionally. But we also offer services to the general online community to gain higher rankings with the various search engines.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Our goal is to expand our client base and provide the best search engine optimization and search marketing services possible.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Ristvin Marketing started small and obscure. We have slowly expanded and spread through word-of-mouth because of the excellent services we provide our clients. As we grow, we have added employees and partners to help provide even better services to our clients. This has aided our success.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

With an unlimited budget, Ristvin Marketing would expand even further and become more national in scope.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

We have always kept up with the demand for our services. This demand has been on the increase as Google and the other search engines have changed, added on to, and streamlined their ranking algorithms. We have constantly kept up with these changes and modified our services to reflect them. It's getting more complicated to gain high rankings on the search engines and because of this, expert and professional services like our have been more in demand. We embrace this expansion.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

As search engines change, the software needed by search engine optimizers gets more sophisticated and expensive. Educating our clients that costs keep going up is a big headache. Also, webmasters that cling to their website designs that lower their chances of gaining top listings in the search engines can be a big problem.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Time is our biggest challenge. Doing SEO properly takes time.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Our on- and off-page optimization has done the most for promoting our website to the general public. But that said, most of our clients have come through word-of-mouth.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Websites can't just be designed and put up on the web and expect people to find them. They have to be promoted heavily by articles, PR releases, SEO, and gaining inbound links from other relevant websites. You really have to put up an authoritative website these days to become well known or offer a service or product that is unique.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Our website has been up since 2001 and will continue until there is no longer any need for our business.

What is the key to your success?

We have been successful because we have provided professional services that fulfill what our clients are looking for. The quality of our performance has equated to good word-of-mouth advertising and local referrals. This has kept our company growth on the upside and we hope this will continue well into the future.
