With the abundance of applications running Adobe Flash nowadays, it sometimes make people wonder why Apple does not still incorporate the media platform in its latest product, the Apple iPad. It seems to me that the company (and some of its biggest fanboys) is believing that Flash is already dying out.
Wrong. It's actually a miss for the Apple iPad to not choose to include Flash. By doing so, it bars the users from seeing most of the online world's videos, games, and other media content. Users won't be able to see videos on websites, such as, say, Youtube. In the world of Web 2.0, browsing without any capability to access those content is just like Internet suicide.
It's actually not very difficult to see why Apple prefers users not to have Flash installed. By doing so, the company forces its users to buy music, videos, and other online media content from its giant media store--iTunes. Have you ever wondered why the gadget does not have a DVD and a USB drive as well? Aside from the additional costs on their side, it also prevents users from accessing free media content.
Deceptive? Yes. Greedy? Most definitely. I don't know about you, but I'm certainly not going to get an iPad myself. There are a lot of available netbooks in the market, which are far cheaper than what the iPad has to offer. Better yet, there's this rumored Courier tablet from Microsoft that is worth a look.
Unfortunately, a lot of people are sucked into Apple's intelligent marketing scheme, which brands Mac users as "cool" while those who are non-users as "uncool." It never fails to get a lot of teens--and a lot of adults as well. Way to go, Apple.
In the meantime, others who would like to get free media content are doing so using other platforms. No Macs there, obviously. There's no need to purchase media from tyrant stores like the iTunes. That's more money saved for these users to spend on something else.
Having no flash is already a deal breaker to me. Apparently, Apple relies on their numerous apps for you to be able to watch videos and listen to music. That's some good money maker for Steve Jobs. But on the contrary, I also feel for Apple. Adobe has made little effort on making good impressions to Apple. It has not made really good versions of its products to run on Apple products, so why would they use it?
Also, the era of HTML5 is about to come and while not yet happening, I can already see the death of Flash and it's inevitable.
