Pay per Click vs Affiliate Marketing

By Wilbur Corncob at 04/30/07 16:28
[404 Check: was link to http:/ / mywebresource. com/ modules/ smartsection/ item. php?itemid=349, anchor: Scott Buresh] in Investing in Pay Per Click Marketing or Search Engine Optimization - a Company Decision compares Pay per Click with SEO.

This is of course absurd, and does says that is it comparing apples with something else.

So, why compare them at all? It is a completely stupid comparison. What should be compared through is pay per click with affilate marketing.

The difference between one you pay for a CLICK, the other you pay for RESULTS! Who would be stupid enough to pay for mere clicks when they can pay for results? It's like a pay per click arrangement with a guarantee!

Scott also mentions a problem with rising click costs. With an affiliate program your costs rise in direct relation to your SALES RISING!

What a concept that seems to have been so much lost in the PPC race.

SEO DISInformation

By Wilbur Corncob at 04/27/07 06:33
How much information out there on blogs, forums and webpages about SEO, linking and the like that is intentional DISInformation (or even unintentional)?

For example:

1) I discover a certain process I'll call "Process A" works exceptionally well for high rankings; and
2) another, "Process B" is terrible

What is the correct action for me?

1) Tell the world to use "process A" so the whole world can benefit?
2) Tell the world to use "process B" so hopefully my competition will sink?
3) Shut up!

If I tell everyone about "process A" I will be the good guy and help everyone, but probably in the longer term hurt myself as the search engines will respond by diminishing the effectiveness of the process.

That leaves telling everyone that "process B" IS effective (although it's not) hoping this will benefit me as my competition will try the process and sink a bit.

I think option 3 is the best line of attack.

The reason being of course "unintentional" disinformation. I think many people try something and attain good results in the search engines (or not) and decide that their particular process is effective in attaining excellent SEO positioning.

For example, avoiding the use of site wide links. Of course it could be a completely different factor that got the great rankings. Or, someone might decide that cross linking sites on the same c-block results in poor rankings, while the actual reason could be completely different.

So the basic conclusion is that if you attain high rankings or not, it is extremely difficult to offer a complete and comprehensive explanation of why unless of course your work for the search engine in question!

Value of Domains for Sale

By Wilbur Corncob at 04/22/07 11:06
I noticed on a forum someone offering 3 domains for sale. They are all parked with sedo and show the owner asking these prices:

  • usedmachinesforsale.com $1,200
  • machineforsale.com $1,500
  • toolingstore.com $900

A whois lookup shows these were all registered in 2000, so they are 7+ years old. That would make them excellent domains to own and the asking prices might be reasonable prices.

I am curious about the price differences. Since these are parked, are not indexed by Google, and probably not generating any siginficant or useful traffic the value can only be based on the actual and registration date. I would see those as all very smiliar.

That said, I think that since they are simply parked at sedo.com (or elsewhere), the value is significantly less than it could be. There is no content benefical to users that happen upon them or search engines.

That is the domains are PARKED. They are not building value. That means a new owner may well be starting from behind the game with one of those domains versus a new one.

A domain that was registered 7 years ago should have some significant search results from all the major search engines and good relevent traffic.

I think it would make sense to develop relevant content, traffic, and value then look for ten times or more for the price?

"Relevant content" is not affiliate programs or paid search results. A forum, blog or similar content might be the easiest to setup and build content/value.

What is a Customer Relationship Management CRM?

By Customers at 04/19/07 15:42
marketing What is a Customer Relationship Management CRM?
A reliable system, that is a process and procedure to help companies manage their customer relationships better is what customer relationship management or CRM is all abour. CRM has the purpose of creating and maintaining effective communication with customers. Normally, CRM covers sales, customer service and marketing.

All business related communications, operations and interactions are covered simultaneously with a good customer relationship management plan. Usually these plans include software programs that help the company to track and organize their customer base.

In short customer relationship management is a way of managing the "happiness" of a businesses customers (thought often it is an exercise in frustration for the customers). To do this a company will often give their customers what they they think the customers want to help increase their effectiveness and profitability. There should also be a clear channel of communication between the sales reps, managers and customers.

An effective customer relationship management plan can be implemented in many ways. Offering product information and support is one way to help make a successful plan. This will show your customers you are dedicated to giving them the information they need.

There should also be a easy system set up for sales reps to schedule and manage their follow up sales calls. The sales department should also have a well built information system with straight forward and clear channels of communication.

Because customer relationship management allows a company to meet the needs of their customers it can improve the relationship between a customer and the company. It can also monitor their interests and improve products and services.

Costomer loyalty should be improved with a good customer relationship management program. As a customers loyalty is increased so will the companies profit and revenue while decreasing the cost of marketing. So not only does an effective customer relationship management program help your customers, but is also helps your company.

Both your company and your customers can benefit by starting a effective customer relationship management plan today.

Adsense Optimization Tips

By Wilbur Corncob at 04/08/07 16:09
optimization Adsense Optimization Tips
Adsense Optimization Tips looked to be an interesting blog... but any possible content is lost by the ads and other junk that overlays the text!

If you can't read the content easily, it might as well not be there!

That reminds me of people who try and make their google adsense ads follow you down the page as you scroll. This is a truly obnoxious technique that will send uses away from your page faster than they can click on your ads (which they won't).

I won't comment on the content of the "Adsense Optimization Tips" blog as it was just too difficult to read! Not to mention that putting an ad for "friendfinder.com" on top of text about web pages is about as far from targeted marketing as you can get! They could atleast annoy me a relavant ad!

The google ads shown right below the friendfinder ads aren't much better... "eStudentLoan.com", "Tips for Fixing Hair Loss!" Ok, now we have "Killer SAles Letter", "Promote your Website" and "Make Money Online".

Two out of three of the google ads aren't even close. Not much of a testimonal for an "Adsense Optimization Tips" blog!

A little clean up (get rid of the blinking crap) and self optimization so all the ads are relevant (google and otherwise) and you might just have something.

PPC vs Affiliate Sales

By Wilbur Corncob at 04/06/07 06:18
I could be way off base here (it wouldn't be the first time). However, I see a trend that I just don't understand. Over the past several years (say since 2001) there has been a shift of focus (by vendors) away from affiliate programs toward pay per click action (PPC).

As well some click rates are astronomincal. Now this trend may be of great benefit for the affiliates who can earn simply because someone clicks, rather than someone having to actually make a purchase.

Now, for a company selling on the internet, and especially its investors, which is a better deal?

With PPC you can spend an infinite quantity of money (ie, 100% of your investors capital) on just getting clicks. There is no guarantee the clickers will ever engage in a transaction beneficial to your business.

With an affiliate program you can be guaranteed a return on your investment. You can be guaranteed that for every penny you pay out, you have made a sale! Who wouldn't want that?
