I was in grade school when I first had my own e-mail address. Back in the days, owning a Yahoo! Mail gives you the bragging rights to your classmates that you are in touch with the technology. That particular e-mail of mine was used until the later parts of my high school.
Halfway high school, I made a new one and abandoned that old e-mail. Now I keep the Yahoo! Mail from high school but is using more my Gmail account. I almost forgot about my elementary e-mail until yesterday when I opened the 2nd Yahoo email.
My mail inbox says it has 957 unread messages. Most of the messages in my inbox came from my old e-mail, and when I opened them, it contains jumbled letters and links, much like those the ones you can find on spam mails. I then realized that it was probably hacked and was used to send spam mails.
I know Yahoo! did an email clean up years ago, which aims to deactivate accounts that have not been used for a long time. I expected that my old email probably made their list and was deactivated and seeing that it is still active, and the fact that it sends spam mails, caught me by surprise.
Perhaps the hacker used the contacts in that e-mail account and made them as recipient for the spam mails. That made me think, my old classmates and relatives' email accounts are listed there as contacts and I fear that they are being harassed by these spammers.
I just hope they won't think that I'm working now as a spam mailer.
