web design CP New Media Interview
Name of your website?

CP New Media

Your name?

Chris Phillips

Your Location (city, etc)

Kidderminster, Worcestershire

Please give us a short summary of your website?

CP New Media are primarily a web design agency. We also specialise in corporate Identity and website Accessibility.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The idea to launch our own website was ideally to get business from it and to let potentitial clients know about the services we can offer them.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

If you mean what was the first website that was designed it was phillips publications. If I recal correctly it was first launched in 1996 when web design was in it's infancy.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Thats easy. CP New Media was decided on because of my name, Christopher Phillips - New Media because that's what we do.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

That is a tricky question, I guess what makes it different is the fact that it is a clean well designed site. We specialise in clean website design. It is also designed for accessibility in mind, not that we had to, we believe that all websites should have a very good level of accerssibility built in as standard, not just the basic level 1.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To generate more business from the website. We plan to have a large article section on web design and accessibility.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I would think we are slightly ahead. To build a successful website takes time and there is no point in having a nice website if you can't be found in the search engines. This is what we have invested a lot of time in and it is beggining to pay off.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I wouldn't really. If we had the time we would put it into a CMS system but considering everyone here can hand code it seeems a bit pointless. I think we would add a blog and use this to publish the articles that we will write. Having over 12 years experience in web design there is quite a lot of knowledge to publish!

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

In short, Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Server costs are high and can be unexpectedly expensive at times. Other headaches are obtaining payment for services provided, most clients are good but there is always one who messes you about and it takes more of your time trying to get them to pay their bill.

What has been your biggest challenge?

There hasn't been a really big challenge. Thge most challenging thing really is making sure that we design and build to deadlines. We haven't missed one yet, not through any fault of ours.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

To be honest it would be google adwords, especially at the beggining but now with the SEO pages coming to fruition that will slowly be phased out .

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It hasn't I have been running websites for years as a webmaster so no change really.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The new website was designed in 2005 and it will continue to run as long a possible.

What are three good things to ask a web designer if you want a website?

How much experience do you have within the Industry? What goes together to make a successful website? How good are you at meeting deadlines and how would you deal with a development problem that could effect the turnaround of the web design?

What is your website address?
