Your name?

Your Location (city, etc)
Vancouver
When did you start your website and why?
This site has evolved over a number of years. I first started this out as my designer portfolio but it has evolved into an affiliate marketing site as my focus changed to one of creating websites for profit into one of promoting them and turning them into a source of revenue in their own right.
Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc
Making Money, Internet Style shows ordinary website operators how they can use internet marketing to increase their website's profitability and shows the novice how they can avoid expensive pitfalls, like turnkey sites that waste your time and eBooks that waste your money.
What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?
I guess the hardest part for me is to decide upon a final design. I have played with literally dozens of different layouts and although the layout I settled on is fairly simple, I feel that it's a superior model to almost all of the internet marketing sites out there because of its easy navigation and no-bull approach.
What has been the easist part of operating your website?
I recently invested in some very simple to use and worthwhile turnkey sites to make my life as a website administrator a lot easier and I'm very glad I did, they really saved me a lot of time.
What was your biggest mistake?
Not doing it sooner!!
Who maintains your website and why?
I maintain my own site and I run about 20 others. I am a very experienced web admin and designer so I wouldn't have it any other way. :)
Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?
My website -IS- the business so having it online is the entire strategy.
What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?
I don't see it slowing down anytime soon but I do think that a lot of the cookie cutter sites out there are going to have to find themselves a new way to make a buck, the competition is getting fiercer and if you don't look like you run a reputable site then today's Internet users are getting to be too savvy to buy from a site that looks amateur.
What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
SEO is a very important part of any new online venture. There's a lot of competition but it's still anyone's game and so you can still win that traffic if you do it right. I have some free articles on my site that show you a few easy steps on how to increase your SEO.
What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?
Affiliate marketing is an area where most website owners are more interested in pushing an eBook by having the highest Google result than actually offering any useful information to the viewer. Search engines won't hinder your site unless your site is not playing fair. Hidden keywords etc will get you banned, and rightly so in my opinion - I have an intense dislike for sites that are nothing more than a parked site with a bunch of links to other sites. My site mostly gets hits from click-throughs and some from search engines.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I have had the most success promoting my site through links from other sites, either link exchanges or sites that I have created personally.
What method has been least successful for promoting your website?
Honestly, I haven't had any unsuccessful promotion for my site, if you're not spending any money on it, then all traffic is good traffic in my view.
What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?
I would like to see fewer parked domains with link directories on them being listed by Google. I'd also like to see the end of pop-up ads!
What advice would you give to the aspiring website operator?
Just do it! There's plenty of money to be made on the Internet! Do it, but do it the smart way - research, make a plan, and get started.
